Confidentiality of Manufacturer Product Submissions

PFWBS recognizes that manufacturers and industry partners may submit product information, designs, specifications, test data, and other materials in connection with product evaluation, certification, or consultation.

PFWBS will make reasonable efforts to protect the confidentiality of nonpublic product information that is clearly identified as confidential at the time of submission and provided for the purpose of testing, evaluation, certification, or related business activities.

PFWBS may share submitted materials with accredited laboratories, testing facilities, internal committees, or trusted third party experts as necessary to perform evaluation, testing, or certification functions. Any such parties are expected to maintain appropriate confidentiality protections.

PFWBS does not disclose confidential product information to the public unless:

  • – the information is part of a certification outcome or designation authorized by the manufacturer
  • – the information is required to be disclosed by law or regulatory authority
  • – the information has been made publicly available by the manufacturer or other lawful source

PFWBS shall not be obligated to maintain confidentiality for information that:

  • – is or becomes publicly available through no fault of PFWBS
  • – was already known to PFWBS prior to submission
  • – is independently developed by PFWBS without use of the submitted materials
  • – is disclosed to PFWBS without restriction by a third party with the legal right to do so

Manufacturers are responsible for clearly identifying any confidential or proprietary information at the time of submission. PFWBS is not responsible for protecting information that is not designated as confidential.

Safety Information, Recommendations, and Certification

The Site includes educational information intended to help the public understand and reduce the risk of child strangulation associated with corded window covering products.

PFWBS may provide safety guidance and recommendations as part of its mission to protect children. These recommendations are based on research, incident data, safety investigations, and ongoing standards work.

PFWBS’s core safety position is that exposure to hazardous cords should be eliminated. Corded window coverings present a serious and well-documented risk to children.

Safety devices such as tie-down devices, cord cleats, and similar retrofit products have not prevented strangulations in documented cases. For this reason, PFWBS does not recommend relying on these devices or methods, such as tying cords, as a safety solution.

PFWBS strongly recommends removing hazardous window coverings and replacing them with cordless window coverings as the preferred and most effective safety approach.

Any interim suggestions referenced on the Site are intended to reduce immediate risk while a replacement plan is underway. These measures do not eliminate the hazard and should not be relied upon as a permanent solution.

PFWBS may test, evaluate, and certify products through its official certification program. When a product or service has been formally reviewed and approved, the Site will clearly identify that designation.

References to third party products, companies, or services are provided for informational purposes only and do not constitute endorsement unless explicitly stated as a PFWBS certified or approved designation.

Limitation of Liability

Every reasonable effort shall be made by PFWBS to provide accurate, current information.

By using the Site, users acknowledge that they are responsible for evaluating the accuracy, completeness, and suitability of the information for their specific circumstances.

PFWBS, its trustees, officers, directors, members, staff, and affiliates shall not be held liable for any damages of any kind arising from the use of, reliance on, or inability to use the Site or its content, including but not limited to direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.

Use of the Site is at the user’s own risk.

PFWBS does not guarantee that following any guidance on the Site will prevent injury or eliminate strangulation risk. The only method to eliminate the strangulation hazard associated with window covering cords is the removal of accessible cords.

PFWBS provides certification for certain products through its testing and evaluation programs. Only products that are explicitly identified on the Site as certified or approved by PFWBS should be considered as meeting those criteria.

Except as expressly stated in connection with specific certified products, PFWBS makes no warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
